The Charlotte Hornets vaulted up 5 slots in the NBA draft lottery on August 20, 2020. With a stroke of luck, we ended up with the 3rd pick in the 2020 NBA draft, scheduled to be held in October. Ironically in 1999, the Hornets with the 13th best odds in that draft wound up picking 3rd as well and ended up with Baron Davis from UCLA. On the flip side, the Hornets pick 3rd in the 2006 NBA Draft and selected Adam Morrison of Gonzaga. With the surprise jump in the lottery, the Hornets will have some interesting options to choose from. Mitch Kupchak has stated that the team doesn’t have the luxury of drafting for need, but solely based on talent.
